Free Wellbeing Education Opportunity with Joe Williams

To continue the discussion of Mental Health and Wellbeing during Mental Health month, Robinvale District Health Services (RDHS) is pleased to announce that with the assistance of Murray PHN, Murray Valley Aboriginal Co-operative (MVAC), Robinvale & District Lions Club and the Robinvale Euston Football Netball Club – acclaimed mental health advocate Joe Williams will be in Robinvale next week

on Tuesday 16th October 2018 at 6.00 pm at the Football Netball Club rooms.  Joe will also be speaking at an event at MVAC earlier in the day.

Joe, who has recently won an award for excellence in suicide prevention at the National Suicide Prevention Conference in July 2018 is a proud Wiradjuri First Nations man who has played rugby league for South Sydney, Penrith and Canterbury prior to being a professional boxer.  Joe’s presentation “The Enemy Within”, speaks of his own personal journey of mental wellbeing and lived experience of mental illness and suicidal ideation.

RDHS Community Wellbeing Officer, Sue Watson had the pleasure of meeting Joe at the Conference in July and has been working with Joe and his team to bring him to our community.  Joe is an acclaimed speaker who has taken his story worldwide and also mentored and worked with youth and adults in a variety of settings, including schools, rehabilitation services and gaols.  We encourage all the community to come and hear Joe’s powerful story of how he has managed to heal and is living with his enemy within.

“It is our own mind which causes us suffering or happiness” – Joe Williams.

Robinvale District Health Services acknowledges the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land and pay our respects to Elders both past and present
